Digicel donates $25,000 to Special Olympics

Digicel Cayman has signed on as a Platinum Sponsor of Special Olympics Cayman Islands with a CI$25,000 donation to the programmme.

The donation is in support of Cayman’s Special Olympic team as they travel to the 2007 Special Olympic World Summer Games in Shanghai, China.

In addition to a cash donation, Digicel is also offering support to Special Olympics Cayman Islands in the form of phones, telecommunications services and other merchandise.

Digicel, as a pan-Caribbean telecommunications company, sponsors and supports Special Olympics teams across the Caribbean.

Digicel Chairman, Denis O’Brien, has long been a supporter of Special Olympics at an international level and has encouraged operations throughout the Digicel Group to become involved with local Special Olympics organizations.

Mr. O’Brien chaired the 2003 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Ireland. It was the first time the Summer Games were staged outside the US and with teams from 160 countries and over 30,000 volunteers the 2003 Summer Games were the most successful ever.
