Ten local teenagers will be gaining leadership skills next month, thanks to a donation from Citco Fund Services (Cayman Islands) Limited.
Derecha McLaughlin and Vumi Dube of Citco’s Community Relations committee recently presented a cheque for CI$1,500 to Paul de Freitas, President of the Kiwanis Club of Grand Cayman, to sponsor 10 teenagers to attend the Kiwanis Key Leader programme in September.
This programme is a life-changing event in which leadership and team skills are developed and enhanced, encouraging middle achievers to become high achievers, said a Kiwanis press release.
Wiekert Weber, Compliance and Operations Manager of Citco, noted that the company would be nominating three teens and that the remaining funds would sponsor seven student applicants.
‘Key Leader is a programme of interest to every employer in the Cayman Islands. The teens who pass through the programme today will become our prospective employees and managers in the future,’ he said.
‘The demonstrated results of the programme elsewhere make it an excellent use of our community funds and we commend Kiwanis in bringing this annual event to the Cayman Islands.’
Derecha McLaughlin presented an additional CI$150 saying that she personally wanted to support the programme and help give back to her community and its young people.
Mr. de Freitas thanked Citco for being the first sponsor of this new and important event for the youth and employers of Cayman. ‘We hope that other employers will step up to the plate to help Kiwanis provide this important teen emphasis at no cost to our young participants,’ he said.
‘Doing so can only benefit the Cayman business community by lifting the personal skills sets of the teens who go through the programme. Our expert facilitators from Kiwanis International know how to bring the best out of the attendees and the results are remarkable.’
Companies wishing to sponsor one or more designated students or would like to make a donation to sponsor a general applicant can contact Paul de Freitas on 916-6331, Ruud van der Pluijm on 947-9956 or Key Leader Committee Chair Millicent Cowan on 929-5613 for an information package.
