McLean puts others in a Frenzy

Skipper Donald McLean and Frenzy crew are in fine form.

McLean, a keen sailor who has competed in the Olympics, dominated this year’s Easter Regatta racing by winning the overall combined trophy for the weekend events with a win in the Round the Island Race and a second place finish in the Back to the Sound Race.

Fu Liem and Java Knight secured second overall and Clive Bodden and Yahoo Yahoo placed third.

“We were very pleased with the turnout of sail boats this year”, commented Race Officer Peta Adams. “A total of 17 boats competed and we are gradually seeing an increase in numbers participating following the devastation to our members boats in Hurricane Ivan.

‘This year has also included some new participants along with our more experienced sailors.”

The Round the Island Race was held on Good Friday with a total of 14 boats competing in the traditional race from North Sound via East End to Seven Mile Beach.

Three smaller boats entered the shorter race via NorthWest Point. The Back to the Sound race followed on Easter Saturday with eight boats in competition.

Participants enjoyed a splendid BBQ at Beach Club following the race and a well attended prize giving at Cayman Islands Sailing Club this past weekend where the racing and a number of other prizes and trophies were presented.

Cayman Islands Sailing Club is encouraging more cruisers and sailboats to come out for the club’s scheduled cruiser racing – a mix of social and racing events.
