Cayman Islands law firm, Conyers Dill & Pearman, are sponsoring Raven Ramoon’s visit to the White House in Washington, DC, as a Global Young Leaders Conference Student Ambassador.
Raven was selected out of 360 outstanding young people from around the world to participate as a member of the GYLC in Washington D.C. and New York. The 11 day experience from 3-14 August 2008 includes meetings with government officials, members of Congress and visits to The White House.
Raven has also been invited to attend the US Inauguration Day in January, 2009.
‘I am so proud of my daughter. This is an excellent opportunity for her to interact with other students of her age from around the world. What a wonderful experience for Raven I am grateful to Conyers Dill & Pearman for their generosity,’ said Raven’s mother Wilma Wood, an employee of Conyers Dill & Pearman.
The GYLC is a unique leadership development programme that brings together outstanding young people from around the world to build critical leadership skills in a global context.
The GYLC Student Ambassadors are carefully evaluated by their outstanding character, academic achievement and leadership skills within their community. The aim of the GYLC is to give high-achieving students aged 16-18 a greater understanding of their roles as global ambassadors while analyzing concepts surrounding communications, diplomacy, law, human rights, peace, security, economics and the role of the United Nations.
Students return home from GYLC with a greater understanding of their roles and responsibilities as citizens and future leaders in an international community.
Each session of the conference is designed to educate, inspire, and motivate students by giving them the opportunity to explore cultural differences firsthand, challenge diplomatic skills daily, build confidence and enhance decision-making skills in an exciting atmosphere that is challenging and fun.
GYLC offers students the opportunity to learn from and exchange ideas with some of the world’s top business leaders, policy officials, lobbyists, journalists, diplomats and academics in the challenging and dynamic environments of Washington, D.C. and New York City or Vienna, Budapest and Prague.
‘The achievements of everyone in our extended family are of paramount importance to us,’ said Kevin Butler, Partner at Conyers Dill & Pearman.
‘This sponsorship is simply another indication of our commitment to the community and the Cayman marketplace. We are very proud of Raven.’
