Today’s Editorial December 05: Pick up an extra toy

Not into the Christmas spirit yet?

Let us help.

This year, as in years past, the Caymanian Compass has teamed up with Woods Furniture and Design, Rooster 101.9 Cayman Country and Z99.9 for a toy drive.

It’s your chance to give the gift of Christmas by donating a gift to a child in need.

The toy drive will run through 19 December.

Large donation boxes can be found at the business offices of the Compass, Z99 and Rooster radio station offices at Grand Harbour and Woods Furniture and Design at Dorcy and McLendon Drive.

You can visit any of our locations and donate a new, unwrapped toy. We’re collecting for children of all ages, so don’t forget about the teens.

In return you will receive a gift certificate for 15 per cent off your next purchase at Woods; that’s 5 per cent more than in year’s past, so not only do you get to give a child a bit of Christmas joy, you get something in return from Woods.

Our businesses team up to do this each year because the owners, management and staffs of all three companies believe that it is our responsibility and duty to be good corporate citizens.

We know that there are children in our country who go without on a daily basis because their families just can’t make ends meet financially. We certainly don’t want those children to miss out on Christmas.

We also appreciate that we are living in tough economic times. If it’s hard on us to come up with the extra dosh for the increasing cost of living, just imagine how difficult it’s going to be for that already struggling family to make Christmas bright.

You can help.

Most of us can remember, as children, waking up on Christmas mornings to brightly papered packages nestled under the Christmas tree and our delight at tearing open the gifts to find what awaited inside.

Please help us share that delightful experience with children in the Cayman Islands.

Once the toys have been collected we’ll notify the Department of Children and family Services, which will distribute them to the children and families most in need. They know who they are.

But we need your help to make this a success.

While you’re out doing your Christmas shopping pick up an extra item for a child, bring it to one of our offices, donate it and know that you will be making a huge difference in someone’s life this Christmas.

It is better to give than to receive. Try it this year through our toy drive.
