Elite face GT as Digicel hots up

The stage has been set for the first leg of the semi finals of the 2008-2009 Cayman Islands Football Association Digicel KnockOut competition.

It’s at the Ed Bush Stadium in West Bay on Sunday December 21.

Elite play George Town at 7pm and Scholars International face Future SC at 5pm.

This was announced at the drawing held on Tuesday at the Digicel Store in Camana Bay by President of CIFA Jeffrey Webb and representative of the sponsor Gary F. Hendricks Dominquez Jr in the presence of team officials.

The return leg will be played in January on a date to be announced while the final is set for Ash Wednesday February 25 at a venue to be decided.

With Roma the defending champions out of the race all four teams are on a level playing field as they vie for the coveted cup.

Elite who were knocked out by Roma in last season’s semis took revenge this time by dismissing them 3-0.

With Elite’s present position at the top of the Premier League table sharing 13 points with Sunset, facing George Town will be an interesting game.

George Town who turned back Tigers 2-1 to take a spot in the semis, have taken several trophies in the past. They have carved out a niche for themselves and could very well be more than a hand full for these maturing youngsters.

George Town have not raised the expectations of their dedicated fans seriously this season and might just take this opportunity to do so and make up for their disappointing start.

Elite have not lost a game this season. George Town has improved and are more firm in their playing patterns now and could very well create an upset in the path of Elite’s rise to fame.

Former Digicel Cup champions Scholars International knocked out Sunset 1-0 in a keenly contested game. They have taken a step forward defeating Future FC in their last outing in the Premier League competition winning 2-1.

Future SC has had a steady performance this season and with a very closely knitted and youthful team having earned their first semi final berth, will be just as determined to get to the finals as their opponents. This game will be tough as experience will be matched against youth.
