George Town, despite the absence of captain Garth Anderson and midfielder Ian Lindo, managed to clip Sunset 2-1 while Roma lost 4-2 to Latinos in Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) Premier League action at the TE McField Annex in George Town last Sunday.
Anderson is out due to injuries he received during the last game played against Latinos. Lindo meanwhile is out on disciplinary actions resulting from that last game.
Both teams played a keenly contested game with the hosts deciding the results from the first half.
Ace forward and former national player Justin Pierre was first on the score sheet in the 24th minute followed by Sheldon Bryan in the 33rd minute.
Bryan scored a spectacular goal kicking from forty yards out into the back of the net past Sunset Goal Keeper Neil Purton.
One minute later, resulting from a foul created by George Town’s Encuma Brown in the penalty area, referee Francisco Coelho pointed to the penalty spot and Eric Brown placed the ball at the back of the net to end the first half 2-1.
The second half was goal-less despite several attempts by both teams to change it. Eventually the game ended 2-1 in George Town’s favour.
In the curtain-raiser played between Roma and Latinos the later came from behind to win the game 4-2.
Wayne Smith capitalized on a defensive error made by Latinos in the 10th minute and placed his team ahead with a direct kick.
Ten minutes later Alfredo Challenger was brought down by Ruddy Chambers in the penalty area. Referee Nolan Foster awarded a penalty to Latinos. This was taken by Challenger and he netted successfully.
Victor Chicas ended the first half 2-1 in the 33rd minute when he flicked the ball in during a goal mouth melee.
The second half saw both teams coming out with more focus placed on their attacking units. This proved positive for Latinos as in the 54th minute they made the score 3-1 with a goal off the boots of substitute Marlon Moore.
Damalay Howelle was next on the score sheet scoring for Roma in the 79th minute resulting from a penalty.
The game became more heated as Roma made all the efforts to control the velocity of the Latinos team. Those efforts would backfire as Latinos earned a penalty in the 90th minute to end the game 4-2.
