Julius and Vivendi dazzle

In the sports world the post-season usually brings out the best in teams.

Softball is no different as the playoffs are ongoing in the Winter Adult Co-Ed Softball League.

A pair of post-season games went in the books on Monday at the Field of Dreams and saw the frontrunners earn their keep.

C league juggernauts Julius Baer, who just stormed through their first season in local softball, played with a chip on their shoulder. The squad was out to prove their regular season dominance was no fluke and did so in emphatic fashion.

The fun-loving PWC Scorpions did not know what hit them as Julius Baer, lead in large part by flag football stars Renford Barnes and Oliver Parker, slaughtered the side 19-1.

The other match would be in the B league and see another favourite in action. Vivendi Cabaret, a new name on an old face in local softball, rode high into the match as the side snatched the Silver Thatch division crown away from the Doghouse Glovernauts.

The good feelings continued in the batters box as the team strung together hit after hit. Their opponents, the Citi Insomniacs, did offer a fight but were relieved to see a respectable final score-line of 12-4 in favour of Vivendi.

Playoff games continued throughout the week. On Tuesday Cassava division winners Jose’s Escape took on division rival Caybrew Chuggers before PWC Experience looked to rebound from the final weeks of their season against division rival Fluor Sweepers.

Wednesday saw Maples C take on league rival Eletratech Pure Energy, Doghouse look to take out their frustrations on a formidable Ritz-Carlton Jesters team and Deloitte Canadian Bacon aim to stuff the Master Batters.

Last night saw PWC Scorpions and number one B league seed Maples Sluggers (who needed the last game of the season to secure a high seed) in action while the suddenly dangerous KPMG Bounty Hunters looked to beat down Senor Frogs.

The playoffs resume on Monday as the remaining high seeds are in action. Julius Baer are back in action while B league darlings CML Hammerheads (who became a league power in just their first season up from the C league) get going.

Coolers (who won the Breadfruit division of the A league) look to validate their top seed as they take on KM Ltd on Monday.
