Power is down in several areas of Grand Cayman following a technical problem at Caribbean Utilities Company.
CUC Corporate Secretary Douglas Murray said shortly after 3pm today [Wednesday] that electricity had been lost in West Bay, parts of George Town, along Seven Mile Beach and areas east of Spotts.
“It is fairly widespread. We don’t know what the cause is at this point. We are investigating. We think it’s a technical problem within the system,” he said, adding that it might take at least two hours from 3pm to have power restored to all areas.
“There are a lot of areas down,” he said.
He said that there had been no calls from emergency services that indicated there had been any pole fires or road traffic accidents that might contributed to the power outage.
