The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service is investigating the death of a woman who passed away after a swim off Seven Mile Beach Wednesday.
The 911 Emergency Communications Centre received a call around 11.45am reporting that a swimmer had been brought to shore unconscious in the vicinity of the Royal Palms restaurant.
Police were told that the woman, who was a passenger aboard Liberty of the Seas cruise ship, had been swimming with her husband when she got into difficulty. Her husband sought assistance from another cruise ship passenger who was in the area on a jet-ski and the woman was brought to shore.
The 62-year-old female swimmer was taken to hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Detectives from George Town police station are currently investigating the death and a post mortem will be carried out.
