Royal Cayman Islands Police confirmed Wednesday morning that a man had died and a woman was injured in a shooting that occurred in North Sound Estates overnight.

Police were investigating the scene along Windward Road in the North Sound Estates in the Savannah-Newlands area.
Witnesses in the area reported hearing several shots fired around 10pm Tuesday night.
A compact white hatchback had apparently been driven from the scene of the gunfire into a nearby canal. Police officers and crime scene technicians were on scene Wednesday inspecting the car and had a wide area roped off on Windward Road.
The woman who was shot remained hospitalised Wednesday.
