Pink pilates

Organisers are hoping to hold the biggest pilates class ever held in the Cayman Islands on Saturday to raise funds for breast cancer.

Fitness studio Energy is holding the event, called Pilates in Pink, at the ARC at Cayman International School at Camana Bay, with proceeds going to the Cancer Society.

Pilates instructor Colleen Brummer, who is a breast cancer survivor, will lead two one-hour classes, one beginning at 9am and the next at 10.30am.

‘Everyone is welcome. We’re hoping to get about 100 people to each of the classes… Everyone will be out for a good cause and they’ll get a good workout as well,’ she said.

She said the classes would be suitable for beginners and experts and would consist of mat work rather than working on pilates machines.

This is the third year she has held classes to raise funds and awareness of the disease.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the pilates classes are being held as part of ongoing efforts throughout the Cayman Islands to raise awareness of this killer disease which is the most common cancer among women and is the second leading cause of cancer among women, after lung cancer.

The pilates classes cost $20 per person and all participants will receive an eco-friendly tote bag with goodies inside.

There will also be refreshments and door prizes at each class. There will be a grand prize of one night’s stay at the new Cotton Tree hotel and dinner for two at Calypso Grill in West Bay.

Attendees are encouraged to wear pink shirts for their workout.

Due to the large numbers expected, attendees are encouraged to bring their own mats and towers.
