Radio raises cash for typhoon victims

Grand Cayman’s radio stations spoke with one voice last Saturday in a radio-thon asking listeners to give to the Red Cross Philippines Disaster Relief Fund following Typhoon Ketsana.

The devastating weather system, which recently left half a million people homeless, has affected many of Cayman’s Filipino workers whose families and friends have lost everything.

According to a release, the island-wide fundraiser was organised by local businesses to boost the relief efforts of the Cayman Islands Red Cross.

Participating businesses included CITN, Digicel, DMS Broadcasting (HOT 104, CAYROCK, KISS, and X-107), Foster’s Food Fair, Hurley’s Entertainment (Rooster and Z-99), Kirk Home Centre, Kirk Supermarket, Paramount Media (VIBE and SPIN), and the Tortuga Rum Company.

Donation locations included all Foster’s Food Fair stores, Hurley’s Supermarket, Kirk Home Center, Kirk’s Supermarket, and the Tortuga Rum Company in Industrial Park.

Cash and cheque donations, payable to the Red Cross, continue to be welcomed, Bank of Butterfield: Red Cross Philippines Relief Fund 02201035054.
