Spate of robberies continues

Royal Cayman Islands Police are investigating the attempted robbery of a grocery store in downtown George Town.

Police confirmed that the Alpha Outlet store on Shedden Road was hit around 10.40am Monday.

Witnesses said a man with a t-shirt and a rain coat covering his head went into the store and demanded money. It was unknown if he was armed; the man appeared to have his hand inside a bag.

The man left without taking anything. No one was hurt.

Monday morning’s incident comes on the heels of two weekend robberies; one in George Town and the other in East End.

At approximately 8:15pm Friday, the 911 Emergency Communications Centre received a report of a woman being robbed at gun point.

The police said the woman was approached by a man carrying a gun who demanded that she give him her purse while she was walking to her vehicle in the Casanova’s Restaurant parking lot. .

The woman handed over her purse and the suspect made off. The victim described the man as being of fair complexion, approximately 5′ 9” wearing camouflage pants and a large red tee shirt that he used to partially cover his head.

The woman was not hurt.

The Friday night robbery occurred less than 12 hours after Margaritaville Restaurant in George Town was hit by two armed suspects. The two men made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

On Sunday 18 October 911 received a call from a man who stated that he had been approached by two men just as he was exiting his vehicle at his residence in Gun Bay, East End.

Police said the suspects demanded money from the victim who then pushed one of the men away before driving off to call 911.
