Coolers look to chill Jose’s

It has been an exciting season for the Cayman Islands Little League adult co-ed softball programme.

Games went down to the wire and teams ended up in the playoffs in varying forms, which started at the Field of Dreams Tuesday.

Tonight sees the next batch of games as A league power Jose’s Escape and Cayman Coolers go head-to-head at 6:30pm.

Meanwhile Silver Thatch division winners the Doghouse Glovernauts look to take down a division rival in either the Maples Sluggers or PWC B.

The A league teams are coming off a season in which Home Gas marched to another regular season division title in the Breadfruit division.

Although they finished the regular season with a league-best 10-2 record, Home Gas could face a stiff challenge in the playoffs against the young guns of their rival Jose’s Escape who finished at 9-3.

Whether the four-time defending champions can make it five in a row depends if the Coolers can chill out Jose’s.

In the B league, a late push by Doghouse earned them the division title in B-1 division just ahead of the City Slickers, who feature the league’s best defence.

A deep playoff run for Doghouse hinges on whether it can hold off a B league team with lots of potential and determination to avenge their place in the standings.

Then again the Glovernauts might end up falling short of glory to surprise B league power Julius Baer.

Julius Baer romped to the B league’s best record at 10-2, easily winning the Banana Orchid division.

Last season’s C-League champs showed they belong in the higher division and their high-powered offense makes them favourites to take the B-league championship this season.

However the KPMG Bounty Hunters finished just behind Julius Baer and have more than enough offense to compete with Julius Bear.
