SUP as it is called, is an innovative, low impact sport that requires very little skill but offers an excellent core workout and tremendous fun while burning calories.

Organizer Justin Schmidt of Turtle Sports Ltd, said: ‘Anyone who can stand on a board can learn how to stand up paddleboard. It is as if you are walking on water and a ton of fun for all ages and abilities.’

SUP is the world’s fastest growing water sport and some experts believe it will be bigger than windsurfing and kiteboarding combined.

SUP is an emerging global sport with a Hawaiian heritage. It can be traced back to the early days of Polynesia.

Paddle boarding is an ancient form of surfing, and began as a way for surfing instructors to manage their large groups of learner surfers, as standing on the board gave them a higher viewpoint, increasing visibility of what was going on around them.

The recent celebrity buzz has allowed SUP to take off in waterfront communities worldwide and now to the shores of Grand Cayman.

People like Lance Armstrong, Matthew McConaughey, Pierce Brosnan, Julia Roberts, Kate Hudson and Jennifer Aniston are all into standup paddleboarding and many more people from all walks of life are discovering it every day.

‘Here are just some the things that make it attractive and why you should give it a go with Turtle Sports; it’s easy to learn – just about anyone can get on and start having fun right away.

‘The boards are longer, wider and more stable than traditional surf boards. It’s also great exercise because it works an amazing number of muscles in the body, legs, shoulders, arms, stomach and more.

‘It is an excellent core and balance workout that improves natural ability in many sports. The boards are easy to steer and the vantage point is hard to beat.

‘It requires no gas, and the board is an investment that will last for many years – nothing to wear out. You can demo a board on the beach and purchase from Turtle Sports Ltd.’
