Primary ballers can hoop it up

The Cayman Islands Basketball
Association is delighted to announce Cayman National Bank as the title sponsor
of the under 12 Girls and Boys Inter-Primary Basketball Leagues.

The Leagues, which began on
Saturday, 8 May 2010 and continue through 19 June 2010, consist of seven teams
in the girls division and 10 teams in the boys division. In total over 150
children from the following primary schools are participating: Truth for Youth,
Prospect Primary, Bodden Town Primary, John A. Cumber Primary, George Town
Primary, East End Primary, Savannah Primary, St. Ignatius, Cayman Prep and
Cayman International School (all the schools except the last three have teams
in both the girls and boys division).

News of the primary league comes as
a number of basketball competitions are currently ongoing. The main ones are
the national basketball league and the Pricewaterhousecoopers U16 league.

The President of the Cayman Islands
Basketball Association Mr. Bryan Hunter said “I would like to thank Cayman
National Bank for being the lead sponsor of the 2010 U12 Boys and Girls
Inter-Primary School League. The generous financial support of Cayman National
has been of great assistance to the local basketball association in our efforts
to raise the profile of youth basketball in the Cayman Islands.”

Cayman National Bank Senior
Executive Claudia Welds added “We are happy to be able to support the U12 Boys
and Girls Inter-Primary School Basketball League. We believe that programs such
as this that help to foster the development of an active lifestyle among our
young people are vital to promoting the long term health and wellness of our community.
Cayman National is pleased to support youth development in basketball, which is
one of the most popular sports in the Cayman Islands.”

Technical Director of the local
basketball association Coach Voot O’Garro said “The Inter-Primary School League
provides our youth with opportunities to learn the fundamentals while playing
the game they love. These children are the future of basketball for Cayman and
it is important that we give them every opportunity to excel.”

For those wanting to watch the
teams compete, the League games are being held on Saturday mornings at the
outdoor courts at Cayman International School in Camana Bay.
