Woman dead in Esterley crash

Royal Cayman Islands Police were investigating a deadly crash overnight on the Harquail Bypass.

Officers said two vehicles, a Honda Civic and a Toyota Prada, collided along the two lane stretch of road, also called the Esterley Tibbetts Highway at around 12.30am Tuesday.

The accident is Cayman’s third fatal wreck this year.

A 24-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Honda was rushed to hospital but was later pronounced dead.

Another woman, the driver of the Toyota SUV, was taken to hospital from the crash. She was listed in stable condition and was being treated in the hospital’s surgical unit.

The male driver of the Civic was not seriously hurt.

The dead woman was identified as FederAnn Faustino of the Philippines. Ms Faustino had lived in Cayman for the last two years and worked at the Wendy’s Restaurant in Savannah.

Police were still investigating the crash early Tuesday. It appeared the Honda left the roadway after the collision and went into the bush on the roadside. Officers were looking into drink driving and excessive speed as potential causes for the accident.

The wreck happened just north of the Lakeside Apartments at a bend in the road.

Witnesses saw the female victim, Ms Faustino, being stretchered away with blood all over her. A man who exited one of the vehicles also had blood on his clothes.

The section of the Esterley Tibbetts between Camana Bay and the Butterfield roundabout was shut down for most of the early morning hours and traffic was being diverted.

  1. My condolences to the friends and family of Ms Faustino. Not knowing the fact of the case yet as to whether there was a collision, or alcohol was involved, etc but there seems to be a number of accidents along this stretch of road. Perhaps some measures need to be considered to diminish further accident potential?
