Softball heavyweights Latinos and
Jose’s Escape Pirates are taking it to the wire.
In one of the hottest weekends in
the softball league, they faced each other in a best of three game series in
West Bay with two games being played on Sunday. It wasn’t short of exciting
moments and plays either which raised the temperature even more.
In the first game Jose’s Escape led
for most part with great hitting by the father son combination of Johnny
Johnson Sr. and Jr. and superb pitching by veteran pitcher Daniel ‘Sweet DT’
Taylor. However, defending champions Latinos would not stay behind as they took
the lead in the fifth inning with clutch hitting by Jaime Ebanks and great
pitching by Donald Watler. Latinos got the win 11-9.
The second game would not lack
excitement either as Jose’s Escape faced the possibility of elimination and not
being able to face A1-Rentals Patriots in the finals.
Latinos struck first by scoring two
runs, however, Jose’s Escape didn’t waste any time and tied then went ahead by
four runs. Rupert Whitaker Sr, Ramon Martinez and Emile Hamilton were instrumental
in Jose’s offence again with great pitching by Sweet DT.
The game came down to the wire in
the seventh inning. Jose’s leading 7-6 and runner on base for Latinos with
their slugger Luis Clarke at bat with two outs. Clarke drove a ball deep to the
right centre but was a few inches short from being a home run as it was caught
by Neil Henry which ended the game. This sets up the decisive game on Sunday
which will be beside the Jimmy Powell cricket stadium at 3pm.
Organiser Marlon Thomas said: “All
are encouraged to come out and enjoy what should be an exciting game.
Refreshments will be on sale.
