Ramon Sealy is a freshman at the
University of West Florida and has already made a big impression in his first
week of playing in goal for the soccer team.
Sealy, 19, was the Defender of the
Week in the Gulf South Conference weekly awards. In only his second game and
first college start, Sealy kept West Florida within striking distance in his
side’s 2-1 win over No.7 Lynn. Early in the second half with West Florida
trailing 1-0, Sealy saved a penalty to the left and immediately got to his feet
to make a diving save to the right on the rebound.
Rickey Sealy, Ramon’s dad, said:
“To be named as Gulf South Conference in only his second appearance and also
his first start for the university makes me feel extremely proud. His first
appearance for the team was in the previous match against St. Leo University
when he entered the game with 17 minutes left.
Ramon, who is on duty for Cayman, at the Digicel Caribbean Cup in Puerto Rico,
said: “It feels great. It feels good that the hard work I pit in at practice
and the training I receive has gotten me this.”
