The new Logic Youth Roller Hockey
kicked off on Saturday at King’s Sports Centre. The much-anticipated new season
continued where it left off in June, with some exciting action.
Opening the day was the Logic
Peewee division game between the Appleby Sharks and the league’s newest
addition, the Stuarts Panthers. The high-scoring game saw the Sharks come away
with an 11-8 victory with Tynan Klein earning the team’s player of the game
with a six point day. Ethan Hersant earned the Panthers’ player of the game
with his three points. The KPMG Senators showed their talents in game two with
an impressive 5-3 victory over a strong Conyers Canucks squad. Sean Whewell of
the Canucks and Nate Meghoo of the Senators were named player of the games for
their respective performances.
The Atom division once again proved
to be a competitive atmosphere boasting two of the tightest games of the day.
The Cedrus Capitals and Eats Blazers faced off in their opener with a
back-and-forth game that ended in a 9-9 tie and saw 13 different point scorers.
Game two of the Atom division saw new sponsor WestStar Wild defeat the Animal
House Penguins in a nail-biting 4-3 finish. The win also gives the Wild the top
spot in the standings after week one. Congratulations to the Logic Atom players
of the week: Meagan Thompson (Cedrus), Samantha Rowland (Cedrus), Jered Holmes
(Eats), Danny Link (Animal House) and Matthew Wilkins (WestStar).
Over in the Logic Novice division
kicked off with the XN Financial Flames defeating the Dart Ducks in a
convincing 7-1 finish. Game two saw the dms Bruins and Walkers Blue Iguanas
clash in a close 4-3 finish in favour of the Blue Iguanas. Novice players of
the week include: Nathan Hughes (Walkers), Dylan Lewis (Walkers), Aiden Windsor
(XN Financial), Devon Wood (XN Financial), Sadie Finch (Dart), Grace Geldard
(Dart) and Will Jackson (dms).
In other news the C.I. Kings Travel
hockey team, which made their debut in an exhibition tournament held in
Deerfield Beach, Florida in June, make their way to Orlando, Florida on Friday,
8 October to participate in the ECHO Hockey Disney Classic Tournament. The C.I.
Kings, who have been training for the past five weeks, will be fielding two
squads of 10 and under and 12U players to participate in the event.
The event will mark the first time
that the Cayman Islands has fielded a roller hockey team to participate in a
major tournament. The tournament will feature teams from across North and South
America. Coach Dan Etherington said: “We’re hoping to do well. The kids have
been working hard and are eager to contend against the competition. It’s time
to have some fun and put their dedication to the test in Florida.”
The Logic Arena at Kings Sports
Centre will host the second series of ten regular season games taking place
