Editorial for October 21: No excuse for catching the flu

If you don’t want to spend the
winter months all achy, coughing, sneezing and worse, there’s something you can
do about it right now.

Schedule your flu shot.

Unlike other areas of the world, in
the Cayman Islands you can get your vaccine for free now at Cayman Islands
Hospital, district health centres, Faith Hospital and the Little Cayman clinic.
Can’t seem to drag yourself away from your desk to take care of your health?
Arrange for the Public Health Department to come to your place of business.
They’ll bring their flu vaccine to businesses with 10 employees or more who
desire the flu shot.

And don’t wait until the last
minute. The Health Services Authority recommends that people get their seasonal
flu vaccine as soon as they can. Vaccination before December is best since this
timing ensures that protective antibodies are in place before flu activity is
typically at its highest.

for fellow human beings as well as a first step in preventing personal
