Brac Business Weekend a hit

The first Cayman Brac Business
Weekend was hosted on Friday, 29 October with a trade show at the Alexander
Hotel. This economic development initiative was organised by the Chamber of
Commerce and the Sister Islands Tourism Association to promote private sector investment
in Cayman Brac and Little Cayman.

Chamber members and the wider
community were invited to attend the inaugural event to learn more about what
the Sister Islands have to offer.

The event was attended by about 100
people and highlighted local artists, artisans, businesses and organisations.

Participating organisations and
individuals included SITA, Cayman Brac Heritage House, local artist Conroy
Ebanks, So & Sew Club, Brac & Forth, Tranquil Realty, National Trust,
Heritage Designs, Department of Commerce and Investment, ERA Realty, Carib
Sands Resort, Cayman Brac Power & Light, Walton’s Mango Manor/Sea Dreams
Villa, Vanderbuilt Construction, Cayman Airways, Brac Reef Beach Resort,
University College of the Cayman Islands and Parrot Estates.

Although the flights from Grand
Cayman were delayed due to travel issues in the US, those travelling with the
Chamber contingent maintained their enthusiasm and enjoyed an informative
evening with remarks from Deputy Premier Julianna O’Connor-Connolly, MLA Moses
Kirkconnell and District Commissioner Ernie Scott, the Chamber said in a press
statement. The Deputy Premier and Mr. Kirkconnell emphasised job creation
opportunities through private sector investment including the introduction of a
second bank, back office support for businesses based elsewhere, corporate
retreats, continuing education seminars, conferences and domestic tourism.

Mr. Kirkconnell also remarked on
the attractiveness of owning a retirement or second home in the crime free
community.

President Stuart Bostock reiterated
the Chamber’s support of SITA’s objectives and pledged a long-term coalition
between the two organisations. The second day of the weekend offered a tour of
the Island and a social event at the Brac Reef Resort.
