The Optimist Club of George Town announces its annual essay programme and scholarship opportunity for the youth of the Cayman Islands.
The contest is open to students under the age of 19 as of 31 December. Contestants are required to compose a 700-800 word essay on this year’s topic, How My Education is the Key to a Successful Future.
The contest provides an opportunity for students to develop and express their writing and critical thinking skills. Entry forms are in schools, and the deadline for submission of essays is Friday, January 7, 2011.
The winners will be determined by an independent panel of judges during the week ending 22 January. The first, second and third place winners will receive cash prizes and medallions. Starting this year, a trophy will also be awarded to the winner’s school.
The winning essay will be submitted for entry in the Caribbean District Essay Contest level, where the district winner will receive a scholarship valued at US$2,500 and a plaque. The winner will also have the opportunity to enter the international contest.
Application Forms are available at the schools and on the Optimist Club’s website, www.optimist.ky
