Qatar’s prime minister visits

The prime minister of Qatar visited
Cayman this Christmas season.

Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani
arrived by yacht and left on an Airbus 320 from Owen Roberts International
Airport on Thursday, 23 December. It was not a scheduled flight.

According to the protocol office,
the prime minister’s visit had not been known about until late in the day.

“We were contacted on short notice
about a private visit by the PM of Qatar and protocol assisted the visit.

“It was a very private visit and a
very brief visit,” confirmed a spokesman to the Compass, who added that the
information they were able to share was limited.

Private flight

The Cayman Islands Airports
Authority confirmed that the Qatar flight was a private one that picked up a
number of VIPs.

“The CIAA does not reveal identity
of passengers for their privacy and protection,” said Caren Thompson-Palacio of
the authority.

It is believed that the prime
minister had been cruising on his private yacht, the Al Mirqab, which had been
spotted moored off Seven Mile Beach.
