Unity must regroup

The season opener was not an ideal one for Unity netball club. It’s A team was soundly beaten and now faces another tough test.

The side is in action tonight, Thursday, at the netball courts at Truman Bodden Sports Complex. At 6.30pm Unity A hosts Rising Stars B, sponsored once again by Money Gram.

Unity hope to improve on a lacklustre showing last Saturday to start the season. The team lost to Rising Stars A 38-15. A couple of areas posed problems with the offence failing to get in any consistent rhythm and the defence getting picked a part by mostly consistent passing. Goal Shooter Mellisa Morris got a fair amount of touches on the offensive end but her shot was hampered on a regular basis by a resilient defence steaded by Goal Keeper Tara Ramoon. Centre Tammy Leslie, one of the newer players on the side, looked decent as a distributor at mid-court but her work went mostly in vane.

Defensively Unity struggled to limit a Rising Stars attack that worked well as a unit. Full credit goes to its collection of attacking players of GS Melissa Rankine, Goal Attack Marcia Moiten, Wing Attack Georgia Linton and C Casy Swaby. Meanwhile Unity head coach David Wilson will need to motivate the likes of GK Oneisha Mitchell ahead of Thursday’s encounter.
