Try out fitness resolutions at Camana Bay on Saturday

Ever made a new year resolution to take up a new sport and then discovered you don’t really like it, so you give it up?

On Saturday, 15 January, Camana Bay is offering a chance to try out different sports and activities before you make that all-important decision.

On offer at the Town Centre and the Camana Bay Sports Centre, next door to the Cayman International School, will be Zumba, Pilates, yoga, sailing, tennis, swimming, self defence, rowing, martial arts, squash and boot camp – activities for all the family.

There are also team sports including volleyball, basketball, field hockey, badminton, ultimate frisbee, street hockey and bocce ball.

“We have excellent facilities here at Camana Bay with Anytime Fitness, our 24-hour gym, and the Camana Bay Sports Centre, and we urge everyone to come along and try the fitness programmes and individual and team sports on offer,” says Camana Bay’s Town Centre Manager Ken Hydes.

Prizes will be awarded for those in a competitive mood as part of the Fitness Challenge – compete in six of 12 sports and win!

Christine Connor from Anytime Fitness, which is helping to organise many of the activities, reminds us that “… in order to maximise health benefits and weight loss, an exercise regimen should contain a variety of activities and sports — not just one type of programme or exercise.

“The variety keeps the physical body more challenged by promoting quicker muscle development and fat burn since the body doesn’t have time to get used to one activity and result in a ‘plateau’. The variety also keeps a person more mentally engaged and motivated so they don’t get bored and quit.”

So here’s your chance to try out a veritable smorgasbord of healthy activities.

For more information or to pre-register, stop by the Discovery Centre at Camana Bay, call 640-4000 or email your registration form to [email protected] The form can be downloaded from camanabay.com. Visit the website to get the schedule of activities.

All participants are required to check-in at the Discovery Centre in the Town Centre on the day to sign a waiver. The first 400 people will receive a Camana Bay sports bag.

In addition, Cayman National will hold its 2011 Milestone Charity 5K Walk/Run at 6.30am the same day. The course begins and ends at Nexus Way, in front of Cayman National Bank, Camana Bay. Registration is through CaymanActive.com. All proceeds benefit the Cayman Islands Diabetes Association and Cayman Islands Diabetes Charitable Trust.

The charity walk/run is one of the activities being offered as part of the Fitness Challenge.

Activities are free, and run from 8am to 5.15pm.
