Several downtown street junctions will be closed in advance of the Cayman Islands National Heroes Day celebration this weekend.
The closures will take effect between 6pm Friday, 21 January, and around midday Tuesday, 25 January.
The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service has approved the closures, and said the times and locations are similar to what has been done in the past.
“The Heroes Day Celebration…usually takes up most of the Edward, Fort and Albert Panton streets,” said RCIPS Chief Inspector Angelique Howell. “The closure is necessary each year to facility the setting up of large tents in the streets and other equipment.
“On the completion of the program [Monday] there is usually a refreshment function that takes place in the streets. The organisers do not get an opportunity to take down the equipment until late morning to mid afternoon the next day.”
The closures include the following roads in downtown George Town:
The top of Fort Street at Fort and North Church streets
The bottom of Fort Street by the Clock Tower at Fort and Mary streets
Edward Street at the junction with Main Street (near Miami Subs)
The end of Edward Street at the junction with Cardinal Avenue
Albert Panton Street at the junction with Cardinal Avenue.
