Rookie cop sacked, charged

A probationary Royal Cayman Islands Police officer who was arrested New Year’s Day in George Town has been discharged from the police service.

The RCIPS has confirmed that the probationary officer – who was off duty at the time of the incident – was arrested for an alleged public order offence early on 1 January.

Eleven days later, the 28-year-old officer was charged with disorderly conduct at a licensed premises and drunk and disorderly conduct. He was discharged from the police service the same day.

A police spokesperson said the officer declined to comment further.
