Diner robbed for 2nd time

Timbuctuu restaurant in West Bay was hit by robbers for the second time this year.

Just before 9.30pm Tuesday, Royal Cayman Islands Police officers said two masked men entered Timbuctuu on Town Hall Road.

One of the robbery suspects was armed with what appeared to be a handgun. Officers said the two men threatened staff before fleeing the scene with a sum of cash.

They were last seen running out of the rear door of the business.

No shots were fired and no one was injured.

The two suspects are described as being around 5ft 10′ and wearing dark clothing. They both had their faces covered.

Tuesday’s robbery occurred less than three weeks after a 14 January heist at the West Bay diner. In that incident, two men accosted staff who were sitting outside the store and forced them inside the business to retrieve some cash.

No one was hurt in the January robbery either. The suspect descriptions in the two cases differed significantly.

Anyone who was in the area at the relevant time and witnessed the robbery, or the men running off from the scene , should contact West Bay police station on 949 – 3999 or the confidential Crime Stoppers number 800-8477 (TIPS).

  1. Like a volcano giving signs of impending eruption, take note people, these petti crimes will escalate.
I am from another Caribbean island quite similar to Cayman but it has been ruined by high crime waves and squandering people in government.
From an experienced fellow West Indian, take drastic steps now to stop the crime wave – if your hand or foot offend thee, then cut it off

  2. Since the RCIP seems to be unable to prevent such crimes, I wish West Bay businesses and residents would come together to start a business improvement district or similar alliance. This is done with some frequency in the US and other countries, and such partnerships are able to hire private security guards to do the job that the RCIP is so incapable of doing with its current resources. Im not full-time resident of West Bay, but I hope that someone is reading this and will take action.
