Pirates Week 2011 will run from Thursday, 10 November to Sunday, 20 November, organisers have announced.
The world-famous celebration of Cayman and its culture also has a new theme, according to the Pirates Week Office.
“In honour of the 25th Anniversary of Marine Parks being celebrated by Department of Environment and whose promotional logo is Save our Tomorrow – Today, we have decided that our theme for this year will be Cayman Marine Life.
“We hope this will help highlight the importance of preserving our Marine Parks, and with all the wonderful components that are part of the waters that surround the Cayman Islands from the reefs, conch, turtles, lobsters et cetera, it will give our local creative groups a lot to work with, whether designing a float or the artwork competition held among the schools.”
Strength to strength
The celebration continues to go from strength to strength, with more people than ever getting involved in the festival’s many different activities, organisers say.
“Last year’s Pirates Week saw a big increase in participation in all the sporting events, and we really want to keep this going. Our website, thanks to the redesign and maintenance efforts by Cayman Free Press, is being updated continuously.”
