Water Authority-Cayman is sponsoring the Cayman Islands National Weather Service’s regional hurricane committee session hosted in Grand Cayman this month.
Authority board members recently approved a donation of $1,000 to help support the annual committee session.
The board members applauded the committees’ effort to keep up to date with operational issues and the latest information pertaining to hurricanes and disaster mitigation in the region.
“As the Cayman Islands’ biggest supplier of water, we know the importance of being educated from an aftermath and preparation standpoint on various disasters, especially one as Hurricane Ivan,” said Water Authority Board Member Pearlina McGaw-Lumsden.
Director General of the Cayman Islands National Weather Service Fred Sambula said hurricanes also have serious impacts on water resources and water resource management especially in its aftermath.
“This kind of collaboration and support from the Water Authority speaks to its sensitivity on such an issue as hurricane preparedness, and we are pleased with their support of the CNWS to make this hurricane committee conference a reality,” he said.
