Online Poll Taste, Ag Show are most popular

Voters choose from early-year events

Taste of Cayman and the Agriculture Show are the favourite annual events of the first quarter of the year with respondents of last week’s caycompass.com online poll, with the two choices receiving an almost identical number of votes.

Of the 430 total respondents, 123 people – 28.6 per cent – said the Agricultural Show was their favourite, while 122 people – 28.4 per cent – said Taste of Cayman was their favourite.

“I only wish the traffic wasn’t so bad,” said one Ag Show fan.

“It’s fun and the food is usually very good,” said someone who liked Taste of Cayman.

Another 100 people – 23.3 per cent – said their favourite annual event in the first three months of the year was the Humane Society Dog Show.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to show off Cayman’s beautiful dogs,” said one person.

“I have participated for 20 years,” said someone else.

“Where else can you go for free and have a great time and support a great cause with your dog,” commented another respondent.

Forty-nine people liked [email protected] best in the first quarter.

“It’s wonderful to see so many talented artists,” said someone who liked [email protected]

Only 13 people – 3 per cent – said Cayman Business Outlook was their favourite.

“It’s a great event from a business perspective,” said one person.

Twenty-three people – 5.3 per cent – responded ‘other’ to the question and wrote their choice in the comments section.

Four of those people chose the Orchid Show at the Botanic Park as their favourite. Two people chose the Cayman Cookout at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman and two people also chose the Mardi Gras celebration at Kaibo.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters Soup-er Bowl got a vote, as did the Sister Islands Cook Off, the Cross-Island relay and the Heart Health Fair. Two private parties – the Appleby Client party and the Island Air party – also got votes.

One person chose another annual event as his favourite.

“When all the Christmas and New Year’s tourists leave,” he said.
