Missing boat sought near Honduras

The Royal Cayman
Islands Police Service has launched a search and rescue
operation to locate a missing vessel with six people on

On Thursday, the 911 Emergency Communications Center received a report of a
missing vessel with four Caymanians and two Hondurans on board.  

 The 37
ft. vessel departed Grand Cayman on Saturday, 16 July 2011 headed
to the Swan Islands, Honduras. Six days later, it has still not arrived at that location.  

Officers from the
RCIPS’ Marine Unit and Air Support Unit, being assisted by the HMS Wave
Ruler’s Linx helicopter are searching for the vessel.

The Honduran Coast
Guard has been notified and is also searching waters off that country’s coast. All shipping interests have
been advised to be on the lookout for the vessel. 

“We are obviously
very concerned for the safety of all six persons on board, and we are doing
everything we can to locate the vessel by utilizing all assets available to us,” said RCIPS Chief Inspector Malcolm Kay.
