The Transformers are back-to-back champions for indoor football.
Only a handful of five-a-side teams can lay claim to consecutive titles. Transformers put their names in the record books thanks to a 3-1 victory over The Security Centre in the Logic Five-A-Side division two final.
From the outset of the match, the Transformers had the offensive advantage. A shot five minutes in from mid-court by Captain Mattio Dinnal gave the team the lead and Dominique Pearson’s two goals would seal the deal over Dominic Stevenson’s lone goal for the Security Centre.
Sharon Lamb, Transformers’ team manager, commented on her team’s success throughout the season and into the finals, “We played well throughout the season and I am pleased with their performance. It was a good game against Security Centre who played well but Transformers came through in the end. They kept their cool and focused on the game. Like any match, to win we need to stay focused, remain calm and out run them. I have a lot of faith in my team and if we follow our own rules, we achieve our goal.
“Notwithstanding I am a woman and short, my team, built up mainly of prison inmates, showed me a huge amount of respect. At the end of the day, to the Transformers it is much more than a game of football. We bring a lot to the table but we take so much more away with us. I think after several seasons and three championship cups, back-to-back first place positions, we have earned our place in the spotlight. Well done guys, I am very proud of you!”
The Transformers were one of three teams to emerge champions in the 2011 league. WestStar TV Ltd claimed the social league title over PricewaterhouseCoopers while Burger King downed the Bonaca Boyz. The next five-a-side season is set to begin in late August.
