Attempted murder charges in stabbing

A 25-year-old man arrested in connection with a stabbing outside a George Town party early Saturday appeared in court to face attempted murder charges Tuesday afternoon.

The man, identified in court as Aaron Solomon, was arrested in an operation that took place in the East End of Grand Cayman, police said.

Police said the victim, also a 25-year-old man, was stabbed several times in the neck and torso. Police said the stabbing was believed to have occurred at the location of the ‘Wet Fete’ party on the old Cayman Islander hotel property along West Bay Road.

The victim was taken to hospital early Saturday and police expected he would survive his injuries.

In court, Solomon’s attorney John Furniss said that his client “denied the matter”.

“He indicated he was elsewhere when the incident occurred,” Mr. Furniss said.

Magistrate Nova Hall indicated that Solomon would remain in custody pending an application for bail to be heard later on.

Being an attempted murder charge, the case was transmitted automatically to the Grand Court with the next appearance date set for 16 September.
