New police recruit ‘Misty’ gets her man

Misty, one of the new Belgian Malinois dogs on the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service K-9 Unit, brought a violent situation to a successful conclusion last week, according to officers on the scene of the disturbance.

Around 4.15pm on Friday, police officers were called to a domestic incident at a house in Palm Dale Drive in George Town.

It was reported that a man had destroyed property within the house and was threatening his wife. The woman was not injured during the incident, but police said her husband refused to come to the door of the house when instructed to do so by officers.

It was not clear where the man was within the home, so police officers deployed Misty to search for him.

Misty located the suspect hiding behind a door, police said. On coming face to face with the Malinois, police said the suspect immediately gave himself up and complied with the instructions of the officers to leave the house.

The man was arrested on suspicion of threatening violence and insulting the modesty of a woman.
