Cayman Brac and North Side volleyball teams continued their friendly competition on Saturday at a newly-sanded court laid out for the occasion.
Their latest round of matches occurred during a Family Fun Day at the Old Man Bay Dock, where the visitors came out on the short end of a “best of five” series.
Archie Whittaker, manager of the North Side MLA’s office, reported that the two teams were already setting dates for return matches to be held on the Brac and then back on Grand Cayman.
“I’m glad the coaches and players have established this relationship,” Whittaker said. “They showed a wonderful rapport along with good sportsmanship.”
Whittaker noted that the Brac team of 10 arrived Friday evening and left on Sunday evening.
Both he and Deputy Premier Juliana O’Connor-Connolly of the Sister Islands pointed to the contributions of Cayman Islands Volleyball Federation President Noel Williams in getting the matches organised.
O’Connor-Connolly, MLA for Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, joked before the game that host MLA Ezzard Miller had not lost his competitive spirit, predicting that his district would win. She attended to support her team and to endorse plans for a seaside park (Caymanian Compass, 30 August).
