Darren Gallant is earning fresh props through ball hockey in the Cayman Islands.
Gallant is a member of the Barracudas team in the Cayman Islands Ball Hockey League. Put on by the association of the same name, the Barracudas are currently unbeaten atop the standings with a 3-0 mark.
The side has grabbed a league-best 17 goals, thanks in large part to Gallant’s four goals, two assists and six points. Gallant had a number of points in his squad’s 5-0 victory over the Deloitte Devil Rays last Thursday. Deloitte has been decent this season with a 1-2 mark as Brent Forsyth has remained the danger man with four points off two goals and two assists.
Gallant and the Barracudas will be putting their unbeaten record on the line this Thursday, 27 October. At Kings Sports Centre the side faces team Coconut Joes (formerly the Islanders) at 8pm. The Joes head into the contest with a 2-1 record thanks to an explosive offence.
Leading that charge is veteran Pete Holowchuk, a stalwart of the roller hockey scene, who sits fourth in the league in scoring with three goals, two assists and five points. Holowchuk earned most of those numbers in last Thursday’s 9-3 thrashing of the Sharks. Joining him in the assault is league-leading scorer Mark Missal (six goals, one assist, seven points).
For the record the Sharks are in the cellar with a 1-2 mark. A semi-finalist of the last two ball hockey seasons, the squad is struggling to gel. The Sharks face Deloitte this Thursday at 9pm.
