Armed robbers hit Alfresco

Updated: Detectives investigating Wednesday night’s armed robbery at Alfresco Restaurant are asking the driver of a black SUV, who was forced to stop the vehicle as the robbers ran from the scene, to come forward.

As the armed men ran off from Alfresco’s and turned left into Townhall Road, they ran in front of traffic, causing the black SUV to stop.

Royal Cayman Islands Police Detective Constable Nathan Turner says it is important that the driver of the car, which is possibly a Ford Explorer, contacts West Bay CID.

According to police reports, two armed men held staff members at West Bay’s Alfresco Restaurant at gunpoint late Wednesday during a robbery.

Police said the hold up happened just before 10pm at the diner, which was hit by robbers once before in 2010.

The suspects got away with some cash. No shots were fired and no one was hurt; no arrests were immediately reported.

Police said the two men apparently ran away from the scene on foot.

The first robbery suspect was described as tall and muscular, dressed in grey camouflage pants and black shoes. The second suspect was shorter and wore a black t-shirt, police said.
