What is happening in Cayman today, are that the seeds of social disharmony and economic exclusion that were very strategically planted by our forefathers ‘foreign business associates’ and other ‘benevolent benefactors’ are now coming to fruition.
The divide and conquer formula for success is time-tested and true to form; unfortunately for the indigenous populace of these beautiful Cayman Islands. The result of this social genocide that has taken place is staring all of us in the face.
Rampant violent crime is the most obvious change to Cayman’s social profile and this same factor if allowing the people who are directly responsible for this atrocity (social and economic leaders) to continue to manipulate, mentally, the population through fear mongering and empty promises.
They say they are our representatives, meaning really that they are instruments to be used to achieve the wishes of us, the people of Cayman. Now ask yourself, what was the last time your MLA or police chief or chief immigration officer asked your opinion about anything.
Now some people will say ‘well McKeeva asked me this or Kurt Tibbetts asked me that’. They are a select few and more than likely sycophants and spin doctors for the said establishment. When did anyone ask you to change this law or continue CUC’s monopoly, sell out national treasures such as the public beach? Never, most likely!
These people are upholding the covenant of responsibility and duty that has been entrusted to them by us. As a recovering drug addict, the term insanity has been bandied about numerous times in my head – doing the same thing and expecting a different result – insanity in a nutshell. Well, what about electing the same MLAs every four years and expecting a different result? I would say that is insanity also. But you know that is only my humble opinion.
So what do we do then?
First, we all have to confess that we, as a nation, have been derelict in our duty to be our brother’s keeper; we have all passed the buck, so to speak. In one form or the other.
We have to put aside the tribal war mentality. The police and politricksters cry out against gang violence; that is a farce. The two biggest gangs in Cayman today re the UPD and the PPM. They are the ones who wear a certain colour green (UDP) and red (PPM). But they call our dear children little punks? They encourage and condone anti-social behaviour during their campaigns, but when it manifests itself in other arenas, they condemn it. My people need to unite now. It is not too late. Unity is strength and can remove any obstacle. You have to be ready to die for what you believe in!
But what can we do or say? We need a common objective and then rally around that. The ideal comes first, then the people who support that and are entrusted to accomplish the dreams and aspirations of the people and for the people. In the absence of unity, there will always be chaos, procrastination and suffering.
The enemy is united in its goal of total domination of the Cayman people.
I give you an example of unity. In 1999 I was a witness to unity overcoming impossible odds. The prison at Northward was overtaken by prisoners for 60 days until the parole system, which had been in place for years but never used was distributed to Caymanians and expats alike; not just a select few, but open to everyone.
So if the prisoners can put their differences aside and work together, why can’t the so-called good people do it? I pray for the day that the people can reunite and be proud to say I am Caymanian and I will not allow one man to be put above the whole nation.
Do not be afraid to fight for your God-given rights. We need lions; not lambs. We need a clean break from autocratic megalomaniacs like the old guard.
