Bank launches employee engagement efforts in Cayman

Credit Suisse employees in Grand Cayman have been exposed to elements of the Bank’s Corporate Citizenship programmes and are demonstrating success as seen through their first employee volunteer event.

Working with Americas Foundation staff in New York, Ben McDonald, country head – PFS, reached out and became encouraged to help launch their first-ever volunteer event in the Cayman Islands.

The National Council of Voluntary Organisations was selected as an ideal candidate and a project with the Nadine Andreas Residential Foster Home was identified.

“As a group, we really wanted to do something to help children in need in the Cayman Islands,” said Janice Jorgensen, fund accounting manager. “We wanted to have a significant impact with our time and resources, especially for our first ever outing.”

On the afternoon of Thursday, 17 November, 18 employee volunteers spent the afternoon painting the outside of the building followed by a celebratory BBQ with the children living at the foster home.

John Alban, the manager of the home was impressed with Credit Suisse’s conscientious efforts while painting and appreciative of the end result.

“The staff from Credit Suisse were very professional in the way they approached the whole task, from planning right through to the clean up,” he said.

He said a significant amount was saved to the organisation as a result of volunteers executing the project. This money may now be spent on activities and programmes for the children. Local employee volunteer service also makes The Nadine Andreas Residential Foster Home eligible for an Employee Volunteer Grant from Credit Suisse.

“A number of employees came up to me after the event and the next day saying that they had a good time, thought it was an excellent project to be involved in, and felt it was very rewarding and a great success,” Ms Jorgensen said.

Mr. McDonald said: “It was great to see everyone working together and enjoying themselves outside of the office and especially great to get to know and work with people from other departments.”
