In the last three months of 2011, the Director of Planning and Assistant Director of Planning approved 316 projects with a total value of $34 million without direct involvement from the Central Planning Authority. In that time period, the number and total value of projects approved administratively were greater than the number and value of projects approved by the authority itself.
During the authority’s 4 January meeting, Director Haroon Pandohie submitted an update on administrative planning approvals by himself and Assistant Director Ron Sanderson. Since 1 October, 2011, the authority has delegated its approval authority for a variety of types of applications, including subdivisions of fewer than six lots, banner signs, sheds for agricultural purposes, generators/fuel tanks, and additions of 10 per cent or less to commercial buildings and apartments (provided there are no additional bedrooms or units).
Since then, there had been 316 administrative approvals with a total value of $34 million. Of the 316 projects approved administratively, 12 were for subdivisions of fewer than six lots, one was for a commercial generator and three were for additions to commercial buildings or apartments.
By comparison, during the same three months the authority approved 87 projects (and modifications to existing planning permission) with a total value of $21 million, including eight projects worth $1 million or more. In contrast, during the three months prior, from July to September, the authority approved 148 projects (and planning modifications) with a total value of some $64 million, including 13 projects worth $1 million or more.
The authority OK’d the Department of Planning’s recommendation to extend the power over administrative approvals for an additional six months.
Also during its 4 January meeting, the authority approved a number of projects, subject to various requirements stipulated by the authority.
Here are some of the most significant proposals the authority approved during its meeting:
