The Cayman Islands Immigration Department will no longer accept incomplete applications at its headquarters or in the mail starting on 1 March. Department officials said this applies to all immigration offices in Cayman and includes, work permit, permanent residence and Caymanian status applications.
The change is part of a number of regulatory requirements the Immigration Department is seeking to enforce.
Those also include full medical reports on any dependant spouses or dependants older than 18, if they are to be included on an applicant’s work permit as a dependant. Anyone applying for a permit renewal, grant or a temporary work permit also needs to obtain a police clearance certificate.
The complete applications should help speed the permit process, according to Deputy Chief Immigration Officer Samantha Bennett.
“The entire objective is to ensure we reduce the number of review times, thereby resulting in a quicker turn-around time for all of our customers,” she said. “It will no longer be acceptable for our limited staff to use their time to follow up with employers to submit missing documentation.”
