Tree planting at governor’s house

The Truth for Youth Grade 6 students planted a special tree at Governor Duncan Taylor’s house on Friday, 3 February as part of their bid to win this year’s Disney Planet Challenge for Change project.

Beatrice Taylor, wife of Governor Taylor, invited the children to the residence on West Bay Road to plant the Neem tree.

The Neem tree works as a repellent and is also beneficial in combating fungus; arthritis; hypertension; diabetes; malaria; hair loss; toothache; ulcers; dandruff; earaches; haemorrhoids; sinusitis; conjunctivitis; psoriasis; acne; and sore throat.

In addition to planting the tree at the governor’s house, more than eight trees have been planted on the grounds of the school as part of a competition which aims to help the environment. The main focus is medicinal plants.

“It was also important to undertake the project as there was the need for the students to become more aware of the value of the plants commonly grown here in the Cayman Islands and to help in sensitising the community about the benefits of these plants,” said teacher Patricia Harris.
