Rogue Gym fighters will battle

White collar boxing and other combat sports have a solid fan base here and that is growing substantially through the efforts of Rogue Gym owner Lachie Hewitt who has organised an open day there next week.

There will be demonstration class and then a club fight night on Saturday 25 February. White collar boxing is for office types who enjoying the training and want to replicate the real thing without becoming official amateur boxers.

Hewitt said: “In the morning starting at 10am we will be releasing new classes for 2012. They are free to attend so please come and try. Then in the afternoon you can watch some live exhibition fights with a barbeque and beers included in ticket prices. Fights will range from boxing, Muay Thai and mixed martial arts.”

The Rogue Gym is located behind the former Mezza Restaurant on the West Bay Road, in the Treasure Island car park. Tickets are on sale at the gate starting from 4pm onwards.

The demonstration classes start with Flloyd Moxam showing his shadown jitsu skills. Hewitt then demonstrates Tacfit boxing before there is a yoga class by Niki and finally Muay Thai.

“Bill ‘The Law of Bodden Town’ McLaughlin our resident policeman is fighting a Muay Thai bout against Gary Tierney a white collar kickboxer know as ‘The Flying Scotsman’ who is in his first bout and extremely excited.

“And finally, Andrew Ford takes on Tim Coulson in boxing. Two big weight locals looking to light it up. I cannot wait for that one. Flloyd Moxam returns to fight David Kay a white collar kickboxer in Muay Thai.”
