The Cayman Islands Boxing Association is holding a movie night as a fundraiser for the boxers this weekend.
There are two films showing at the D. Dalmain Ebanks Gymnasium at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex on Saturday 25 Saturday; Real Steel and Courageous, being shown at 5.30pm and 8.30pm respectively. Real Steel is a recently released movie. It is set in the near future, where robot boxing is a top sport. It takes on the Rocky theme. A struggling promoter feels he’s found a champion in a discarded robot. During his hopeful rise to the top, he discovers he has an 11-year-old son who wants to know his father. The film night has the backing of coaches Donie Anglin and Norman Wilson.
Courageous is another recently released film about four police officers who have to deal with a tragedy that strikes close to home. They struggle with their faith and their roles as husbands and fathers and together they make a decision that will change all of their lives.
The boxers are really working hard to generate their own funds. In recent months they’ve had two bike-a-thons, roadside pad demonstrations and found private sponsorship in many ways.
Boxers Diego and Reymon Rodriguez are supporting the film night. It is the idea of their mother Dawn who has put a lot of time and effort into organising the show and deserves support.
There is a BlackBerry 9860 being raffled and various gift certificates at the film night. Tickets $10.
