Disturbing.
That’s the best way to describe the ongoing search for
Nathan Clarke.
He’s been missing since Saturday night. He’s the third
person who has gone missing in a bit more than a year.
Land and sea searches were carried out Sunday and Monday
with no success by press time Tuesday afternoon.
The volunteers and police are to be commended for their
efforts in the search, but we have to wonder why media communication in this
search hasn’t been as forthcoming as it has been when others have gone missing.
We also find it unusual that the police helicopter wasn’t
used in the search; instead friends had to instigate a fundraiser to get enough
money to pay for a private helicopter to help in the search.
Last year two women went missing – Kerran Baker and Anna
Evans. We still don’t know what happened to those two women.
We hope the same thing doesn’t happen in this case.
Mr. Clarke has been living amongst us for four years, so he
is no stranger to the workings of the Islands.
Unfortunately social media have picked up on the story and
have likened it to the disappearance of Natalee Holloway in Aruba.
For those who don’t remember, Natalee was a teenager from
Alabama in the United States who took a high school graduation trip to that
Caribbean island and disappeared. She’s never been found and immediately
following her disappearance the tourism industry in Aruba suffered.
This isn’t the first time there has been an unfortunate
occurrence along that stretch of Seven Mile Beach.
Just last year there was a mugging, stabbings and other
mayhem in the area.
Whether you are a resident or a visitor, stay alert and
remain with your group at all times. No one can be too cautious, no matter
where they are in the world.

As time passes the hope for a positive result to this situation fades. It is baffling and not a bit troubling that in such a small community people can go missing and no one knows anything.
