Cayman fishing is set to get added international publicity.
Local marine conservationist Guy Harvey will have a TV show on NBC Sports Network about marlin fishing this Saturday, 10 March. The programme, which highlights Cayman’s fishing scene, is slated to air at 12.30pm.
The Cayman Islands Angling Club is supporting the show as a promotion for local competitive angling. Harvey has a big presence on the fishing scene as he, among other things, often provides prizes for fishing tournaments.
It should also be noted that Harvey has another TV programme airing this weekend. Titled ‘This Is Your Ocean: Sharks,’ the documentary is slated to premiere this Saturday at 10am and 11.30am at Camana Bay’s Hollywood Theatre. Presented by the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation, admission is free though seating is limited and viewers are encouraged to arrive early. Among the sponsors for the showing are Foster’s Food Fair, Kirk Freeport, Tortuga, Dart and Hollywood Theatres.
Harvey’s show marks the second time in three months that Cayman angling has received international publicity. Back in January, noted fisherman and TV personality George Poveromo featured local wahoo fishing on his ‘George Poveromo’s World of Saltwater Fishing’ show on NBC Sports Network.
Alongside marine artist Carey Chen, Poveromo nabbed 18 wahoo, four yellowfin tunas and had a blue marlin catch and release on a local 65-foot boat. The show also featured wahoo trolling and noteworthy factors such as bait and boat speed. Poveromo, 53, hails from South Florida and was in Cayman last November filming for the show.
