After years of futility, Unity finally looks poised for a winning netball campaign.
The A team downed Rising Stars B 33-18 last Saturday at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex netball courts. The match was part of the Cayman Islands Netball Association 2012 open league.
Saturday’s victory was the second consecutive triumph for Unity A, who are now 3-2. Sheree McKenzie powered the Unity offence at Goal Attack and states her side did well.
“The game went well for my team,” McKenzie said. “It was not our best but we did good. For me personally, though most of the team was injured we did really well.”
The statistics sheet shows Unity were out front and never let up. They had advantages of 8-6, 10-5, 6-5 and 8-2 in each of the game’s four quarters. Aside from McKenzie, the rest of the Unity starting line-up was Goal Shooter Kemoya Goulbourne, Wing Attack Niketa Boyd, Centre Racquel Graham, Wing Defence Zanya Pinnock, Goal Defence Kerry Scarlett, Goal Keeper Lavern Ebanks with Cherita Robinson, Polly-Ann Francis and Beverly Watson-Scott as subs.
RS put up a decent fight behind GS Alexis Carias, GA Kiana Rankine, WA Annique Blake, C Lethea Rankine, WD Tashunda Hurlston, GD Gelyssa Rankin, GK Lexie Solomon with Karla Rankine, Aaliyah Webb, Kady Myers, and Kimberlee Solomon as subs.
The loss for RS puts them at 1-2. They play again this Thursday, 8 March, against Rising Stars A. Unity A storm the court on Saturday, 10 March against All Stars B. Both matches are at 6.30pm.
